The Twin Cities is one of the most demographically diverse cities in the United States.

Like the targeted areas of our summer missions outreach opportunities, the Twin Cities faces many challenges of their own—crime, social injustice, and an increasing gap between the rich and the poor.

In the summer of 2010, Ace Hoops vision for reaching urban youth launched with a free overnight basketball camp for kids from South Minneapolis. Beyond basketball skill development, special emphasis was placed on such things as faith, teamwork and integrity. The camp acted as our segue into future programming.

In October 2010, we made the Powderhorn Community of South Minneapolis our new Twin Cities home. About twice monthly, we have introduced our Ace Hoops Fast Break Program at the Powderhorn Recreational Center, opening up the facility for a time of fun, fellowship, and food. Intentional about creating opportunities for continued growth and development in the relationships among peers and Ace Hoops staff and volunteers, this programming is the next step in a vision unfolding,

Beginning in April of 2011, we're thrilled about opening the Ace Hoops Learning Center. Partnering with the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board, we're launching an academic-based, after-school program for 4th-6th graders of the community, with hopes and prayers to offer it to more grades the following school year!

Plenty of opportunities to get involved with Ace Hoops programming in Powderhorn! To learn more about how, email Tim.
